Landscape Lighting and Ponds and Waterfalls, oh my!

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives is very pleased to be involved in a special outdoor living event with Jaak Harju’s  Atlantis Watergardens in Denville.     “A Moonlight Pond Party” on Friday evening, October 7, 2011 from 5 to 8pm will preview Atlantis’ new Garden Design Center at 3163 Route 10 East in Denville, NJ.

Gardeners and water gardeners and anyone who enjoys spending time in their yard will appreciate this brand new Water Garden and Design Center that will be a resource for great ideas and expertise.  And of course there will be a variety of garden lighting on display.

Atlantis is the premier pond and pondless waterfall vendor in the area.  If rainwater harvesting and sustainability with a beautiful aesthetic are a priority, you may want to speak with Jaak and his team.    They are preparing to open a brand new beautiful garden center in Denville, with the landscape lighting provided by Northern New Jersey’s premier outdoor lighting company, us!  At this installation we’ve used a variety of landscape lighting techniques and included both quartz-halogen and LED light sources.    Ponds and waterfalls, and beautiful outdoor lighting are perfect complements for people who love to spend time outdoors, enjoying their homes in expanded ways and during elongated seasons.

If you are interested in seeing some pretty interesting water features, custom landscape lighting and other gardening vendors on display, you may want to stop by the preview party:  “A Moonlight Pond Party”  on Friday, October 7 from 5 to 8pm, right on Route 10 in Denville, NJ. Refreshments will be served.    Be sure to talk to Norm about custom outdoor lighting for your garden, patio, yard, or architecture.  We are known for setting up evening lighting demonstrations that show you how the lighting will look before you make your decision.

Please call JoAnn at 973-627-0515 to let them know you’re planning on attending, or call Deborah in our office at 973-486-0819.   Please tell a friend who may be interested, and ask them to tell us you sent them!

Low Voltage Outdoor Lighting: What does it Cost to Run?

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

A well-designed low voltage system for landscape lighting is energy efficient and economical to operate.  An average outdoor lighting system of 20 fixtures will cost only $12 to $15 per month in electricity;  an LED system only 25% as much.   Low voltage garden lights and and low voltage deck lights and low voltage architectural lighting can all be very eco-friendly.

It is not uncommon for a homeowner to ask us how much it will cost to run their new  low voltage outdoor lighting system.  Often we are at their homes on a free nighttime demonstration, setting up some new, beautiful lighting and they just want to make sure their next electrical bill won’t break the bank.

Here are some calculations.  We often use a heavy-duty well light with a 35 watt bulb.  Let’s assume that light is on for an average of 5 hours a night, every night.  35 watts X 5 hours a night X 30 nights per month =  5.25 kilowatt hours.  The electrical cost will vary by location and possibly time of year, but let’s assume it is the average for NJ at 16 cents per kilowatt hour.   The well  light will cost about 85 cents per month to operate if it is on every night.

The other fixture we use often is a path light.  With a 20 watt bulb, that path light will cost about 50 cents per month to operate.

An average 20 light system might cost only $12 to $15 per month.  If the system utilized our latest LED fixtures, the cost drops about 75% to just $3 or $4 per month!  The best systems turn out to also be the most efficient and eco-friendly.

Please give me a call if you’d like to discuss lighting your property.

LED Outdoor Lighting at Springfest

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Northern NJ enjoyed SpringFest this past weekend.  Northern NJ homeowners were excited about the new LED fixtures and commercial lighting fixtures we displayed.    The LED rope lighting for outdoor applications was also a big hit.   The LED fixtures, which are our most eco-friendly type of landscape lighting,  now have impressive brightness and excellent color rendition, unlike the LED’s of the past.

Garden enthusiasts had a chance to discuss their landscape lighting questions with Norm Cohen personally.    One of the most popular fixtures for gardeners is our unique half path light, which illuminates a path on side and floods the plantings behind it with light.

We met several homeowners who we will be contacting shortly to arrange FREE nighttime demonstrations.

Go Green with Outdoor Lighting

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Blogpost adapted from article written by Cybermark, Intl.

The GazeboAs a leader in the New Jersey landscape lighting industry,  Outdoor Lighting Perspectives has seen a huge increase in interest from homeowners concerned with green technology  or green design for their home improvement projects.  Low voltage energy-efficient New Jersey outdoor lights and LED fixtures both meet those goals.

It’s our love of nature that inspires so many of us to extend our living space into the great outdoors. Whether it’s an al fresco kitchen, multi-tiered patio, swimming pool, hot tub, fountain, gazebo or sports court, homeowners are increasingly investing in outdoor family fun centers right in their own backyards. It’s this same love of nature that inspires those who choose eco-friendly lighting solutions for outdoor fun at night.  Path lighting,  garden lighting, and patio lights are just some of the products and services offered by locally owned and operated Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Northern NJ.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives designs, installs and services outdoor lights with energy-efficiency in mind:

  • Trained professionals assess your outdoor lighting needs and make recommendations based on the minimum number of light sources necessary to create the desired effect
  • Lights used in your outdoor lighting design are either low voltage, using as much as 50 percent less electricity than conventional line voltage, or LED technology, using an even smaller fraction of typical electric usage.  LED fixtures may only be replaced every ten years or so – reducing waste substantially.
  • On-going maintenance maximizes energy efficiency by ensuring that your lights are working properly.
  • Timing technology utilizes Light Control Automation, photocells and timers to automatically ensure that the lights are on only as they are needed and no more.
